How Dare You is constructed from the back of a metallic noticeboard. The shiny surface, an object of magpie-like attraction for the artist, becomes the ground for a work forged in the intensity of personal anguish.
Created in the aftermath of discovering a former partner’s new relationship, the piece channels anger and grief through both gesture and text. The repeated phrase “How dare you” captures the obsessive return of thought in moments of emotional injury, while the act of incision into the surface underscores its visceral origins. Beneath the letters, colour-coded drips conceal hidden sentences, layering private communication within the work and complicating the relationship between confession and concealment.
