banners & signs
This body of work documents ephemeral banners bearing statements such as Welcome back Ellie It’s Still Quite Shit Here and Remember What He Did to Diana, a response to the King’s coronation. Initially conceived as humorous interventions, these banners - like the artist’s slogan T-shirts - were never intended to form a central strand of practice, but have grown into a significant element.
The earliest experiment in public display, Tresemmé is Not Used By Professionals, was installed briefly in the artist’s bedroom window. Its inspiration derived from a house in Poole where the resident covered their windows with handmade placards carrying slogans such as Boycott cashless shops and JFK is still alive. While colloquially referred to as “the crazy house,” the work reflects a more complex interplay of humour, eccentricity, and concern for the unseen maker.
